Make Money Online – Quick Q and A For Affiliate Marketing Beginners

If you’re just starting out in affiliate marketing you’ll no doubt have a huge amount of questions. Here are 7 of the more common questions I get asked.

What are the best eBooks / course I should read to learn about affiliate marketing?

Although some courses can be valuable for absolute beginners almost all the time all the information is freely available in the various affiliate marketing blogs and forums. Start reading and most of all start doing as nothing beats good old fashioned trial and error.

What is the best affiliate network?

Impossible to answer. Let me give you some examples. If I was a finance affiliate then I would maybe pick OMG who are pretty much a niche network working in the money and financial sector, so good if you are in finance, but not so good for my holiday site. Without specific information about what you are looking for it’s impossible to answer, and remember programs come and go on networks, so the best network for you today may not be the same as tomorrow.

What is the best affiliate program?

How am I supposed to answer this?| The best affiliate program will of course differ from site to site. Say for example that my best performing program right now is InterFlora, because I feature it heavily on my flower site that does a huge amount of targeted traffic. Does that mean you should promote it on your site for airport parking? Nope, of course not. Instead try asking “What is the best performing affiliate program in the airport parking sector”? Then go through the different answer you will undoubtedly get and ask why, does it have a high CPA? Does it have a low reversal policy or does it just convert really well?

What is/are the best niche(s) to make the most money?

Again this is impossible to answer. I operate in a few niches now that are very profitable to me, however only because I have been in these niches for years and know them inside out. For a newbie to enter would be very hard and would involve a lot of money for PPC. Even then there would be no guarantees. Don’t pick a market to promote just because you think you can rake in money from it, instead build a site about something you are passionate about and knowledgeable about.

I’m not technical. Can I still build a website and make money?

Of course you can, lots of affiliate marketers don’t know a lot of technical information (or certainly didn’t when they started out) Thanks to sites like Wordpress and Blogger you can now have a site up and running in literally minutes. This can be a good place to start for those without any tangible technical skills.

What is a good CTR for PPC Networks?

Prepare to be amazed, because although many people spend there entire lives worrying about CTR the simple fact is “As long as you are making money it doesn’t matter”. Seriously, people obsess about this but at the end of the day if you are making money then that’s what counts. I have some campaigns that have CTR rates at over 75% but earn practically nothing, and also some at less than 5% that earn me enough for a holiday each month. Look at profit and let CTR look after itself.

How many clicks should I send to a program to see if they convert?

In my opinion 250-500. Not 10, or 100 unless they are extremely expensive clicks. Some people will argue that it should be lower but I always send at least 250-500 very targeted clicks via a PPC campaign before I can definitely say whether it will convert.
